The Academy

A thoughtfully designed program combining personalized college guidance, mentorship, and identity-centered growth within an intimate cohort community.

The Academy at The Possibility Institute is a selective cohort-based program for girls in grades eight through twelve. We expertly guide small groups of three to five girls to flourish as they navigate the college process.

For nearly three decades, our founder has done this work one client at a time, partnering with young people to identify their values, develop their voices, and navigate major life transitions, including the college application process, with confidence. The Academy brings that practice beyond her proven one-to-one framework into a community where girls can grow together.

Community is the foundation. Belonging is the result.

Research shows that when girls find a deep sense of belonging and identity, they step into the full possibility of who they are, strengthening other aspects of their lives. The Academy leverages the vital protective factor of belonging by cultivating small, allied communities where girls can develop a steady sense of self together while receiving customized educational advising.

Through the college application process, we embed evidence-based empowerment work: identifying values, increasing confidence, refining personal direction, developing authentic leadership, and fostering independence. Each girl leaves The Academy not only with her college decision in hand, but with a stronger sense of what she stands for and how she wants to lead her life.

About

An Exclusive, Tight-Knit Community

Membership in TPI’s Academy Cohorts is intentional and selective. In the spring of 2026, rising sophomores and rising juniors will be admitted through an interview process, joining a small grade-specific cohort of three to five peers who will grow alongside one another through the college admission process. Participation in The Possibility Institute is a meaningful experience and credential. Students are encouraged to include it on their college applications and resumes as evidence of their commitment to personal leadership, research, and self-development.

Our research builds on our founder’s three decades of evidence-informed practice and on established research in positive psychology, well-being, and the power of belonging and community. We are now extending that foundation into a longitudinal outcomes study, following the girls who come through our program from their first day with us into their transition to college and beyond. We are measuring what matters most for girls’ long-term development: self-efficacy, sense of purpose, and the capacity to thrive. Our goal in this research is to show, with rigor, what a cohort-based, values-anchored program can do for girls during this transitional period in their lives.

Our Research

Arc of the Academy Years

The Academy is built on three components that thread through every year of the program: Values, Direction, Action. Together they shape the process of becoming, so that each girl comes to understand what matters to her, applies that knowledge to her choices, and conveys who she is through them - all in the practical context of preparing for college. Irrespective of her entry year, the same arc carries her forward, meeting her where she is and gathering momentum as she nears her senior year and the applications she will craft. All of this unfolds within a small cohort of three to five peers - a community of belonging where each girl is known, supported, and met fully.
